Avigdor Arikha, born in 1929 to a jewish family on the border of Romania and Ukraine, died on April 29,2010 in Paris,France. He is one of the most important figurative and realistic painters in the second half of the 20 th century in the west, one of the most important modern artists in Israel, and one of the artists who has an important influence on the Chinese oil paintings. This paper mainly analyzes the source of Arikha's "subjective reality" through the collation and research of Avigdor Arikha's domestic and foreign materials. It focuses on the analysis and discussion of Arikha's "subjective reality" from the two aspects—— "reality" and "subjectivity",and tries to further explain the "reality" of Arikha by distinguishing "subjective reality" of Arikha from the other "reality".Since the 1990 s,China Academy of Fine Arts began to study representational painting and artist Avigdor Arikha, but this kind of research unilaterally attributed Arikha's "reality" to the "reality" of artist Alberto Giacometti who used the same painting methodology. In fact, there are huge differences between them: Arikha pursues "subjective reality",while Giacometti explores "absolute objective reality".Such misreading is because the domestic researchers have blurred the different phenomenology that the two artists rely on,and more importantly, the domestic researchers are lack of understanding of Arikha's "subjective reality".Although ideas of them are both based on similar phenomenology——Giacometti affected by Husserl's phenomenology, while Arikha inclined to Heidegger's phenomenology and Sartre's phenomenology——yet their works have different feelings. Moreover, the characteristic "subjective reality" absorbed "brushwork" of Chinese landscape painters hongguzi contained in the concept of "qi" in Chinese traditional painting and pure unconscious idea of Sartre's phenomenology. The "subjective reality" more emphasizes on the subjectivity, namely the artist proprioception, and emphasizes the creation of "qi" in the process of germinal after I and unconsciousness. And this state is reflected in Arikha's works, especially in the heart of the essay,a unified, vivid style of writing. This paper attempts to compare Arikha's works with traditional Chinese painting works. After combining with the brush technique of traditional Chinese ink painting, the energy of "qi" keeps growing wherever the brush goes, eventually forming a vibrant picture effect. At the same time, through the comparison of Lucian Freud,a figurative artist who also explores the essence of reality, this paper devotes to the differences between the works of artists and their artistic concepts,so as to further analyze the embodiment of Arikha's "subjectivity" in his works.
