Research In The Late Figure Painting Of Avigdor Arikha

Western art system emerged many genres in twentieth-century. The artist who engaged in realistic painting is decreasing in current artistic environment, but Avigdor Arikha still persisted in realistic painting. Most of his early art works are abstract painting, but he turned to the realistic painting in his last artistic period, and retain this style until the end of his artistic career. Strictly speaking, Arikha does not belong to any one of Western art genre. He has a unique perspective and style to performance with the realistic approach of traditional daily life and contemporary show, which makes domestic art circles had a strong resonance for his works.In this paper, I analysis a number of theoretical writings and Arikha’s works of art, reveals the reason of Arikha’s change since the late1960s, the formation of figure painting style and the inspiration for the development of realistic painting in China. The first part describes the artist’s life and his time, at the same time describes the characteristics of the two periods in Arikha’s artistic career and analyzes the reasons for his changing; second part is the most important section of this article, I detailed interpretation of the constitutes, color and brush strokes. Watch and study the works of Arikha as this, add more in-depth understanding of his art, meanwhile this study for a practical class of students is a big help for study and creation in the future. Finally, I used a chapter describes the significance of Arikha’s works on current realistic painting atmosphere in China, and the inspiration for my own art creative as well as practical impact works. As my point of view, the contemporary art scene is complexity in China, the development of Arikha’s career could be a good reference for the current realism artist in China.To sum up, I think it has a good practical significance for research and interpretation Arikha’s art works, but also have a good reference for my personal creative practice.
