Research On The Monks Image In The Anecdotal Novel Of Tang And Five Dynasties

From Tang Dynasty to Five Dynasties,from the ruling class to the common people,most of them believed in Buddhism,and Buddhism itself was full of sects,showing a prosperous and prosperous development,so that a large number of monks who are dominated by Buddhist monks emerged in the notebook novels of Tang and Five Dynasties.Based on the series of the Great View of Anecdotal Notes of the Tang and Five dynasties published by Shanghai Ancient Book Publishing Press in 2000,this paper makes a study of these numerous and complicated monks.This article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter mainly summarizes the monks in the anecdotal notes of Tang and Five dynasties,define the scope of this study,analyzes their religious affiliation,national situation,communication situation and the characteristics of monks as a whole.The reason for this is that these monks in the anecdotal notes of Tang and Five dynasties can be divided according to different standards.For example,they can be divided into foreign monks and domestic monks by country.If it is divided by expertise,it can be divided into poetry monk,medical monk,calligraphy monk,magic monk,etc.If divided by Buddhist attainments,it can be divided into eminent monks and ordinary monks.However,due to the extremely rich images of monks in the notebook novels of Tang and Five dynasties,a monk may have several characteristics and belong to several other types at the same time,it is difficult to use the same criteria for classification.In this paper,author finds out and reads carefully the works about the image of monks in the notebook novels of Tang and Five dynasties,then classify them according to the country of monks.Although the monks in the anecdotal notes of Tang and Five dynasties are mostly Buddhists,there are also Sanyi religion 's monks.Buddhist monks have a wide range of contacts with secular people,royal families,scholar-officials,ordinary people and Taoists all appear in the social circle of monks.Most monks with spell versatile,ramble in the world of mortals,often talk about some strange things,compete with the Taoist priest.The second chapter mainly discusses the portrayal of monks in the anecdotal notes of Tang and Five dynasties.The anecdotal notes of the Tang and Five dynasties shaped various types of monks.They are not all the ordinary impression of the life of the monks,nor are they all the protagonists or decent characters,but as supporting role or villain role,the Tang and five dynasties note novels are to shape a group of famous monks in the history of the imagine.In the modeling of some strange monks,the author often adopts deification,so that there is a pattern tendency,such as declaring things with dreams,anticipating the future,and changing monks from things to things.The third chapter mainly discusses the factors that influence the image of monks in the anecdotal notes of the Tang and five dynasties.The change of the image of monks,especially the identity of monks,is not only deeply influenced by the development of Buddhism in different periods of the Tang and Five dynasties,but also reflected by the difference of Buddhist attitude among the writers of different anecdotal novels.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the influence of the image of monks in the anecdotal notes of the Tang and five dynasties undefined on the works of later generations.This kind of influence is especially reflected in the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Song Dynasty and the Journey to the West.Some of the biographical materials of the monks in the Biography of Eminent Monks of Song Dynasty are derived from the notes and novels of Tang and Five Dynasties.The stories and imagine of Xuanzang and some other monks' plots in the Journey to the West also inherit and develop the related content in the anecdotal novels of the Tang and Five Dynasties.
