Pick to perceptual interaction model of VWM(Visual Working Memory)(Gao,Gao,Li,Sun,& Shen,2011)research view,in the process of interact with perception,visual working memory can not only to temporary storage of perceptual representation,while participating in the characterization of a progressive process,so that the visual representation of the discrete presents a consistency and integrity,and in this way,the information in the coding phase has,in turn,into the working memory are integrated into the same object in the storage stage.Relevant studies have found that the potential mechanism of integrating discrete information in visual working memory may follow the organization of Gestalt.On the other hand,self-related information also has the ability to integrate perception,that is,when certain information is connected with the self,it can promote memory performance.Therefore,it remains to be studied how gestalt images entering visual working memory can affect the memory performance of visual working memory when they are self-meaningful images.Used the change detection task paradigm,this study made in the form of sequence to present information directly to integrate in the working memory,visual working memory using gestalt clues organization are discussed in this paper,the mechanism of discrete information and information related to whether can promote the self-visual working memory organization of gestalt of discrete information was investigated.Through three experiments,we first use the Self-Shape Associative Learning paradigm(Sui,He,and Humphreys,2012)to associate different shapes with identity labels(e.g.Self/Friend/Stranger).We designed combination graph with symmetric clues(in experiment 1),asymmetric combination graph(in experiment 2),and a separate discrete disk(experiment 3)as experimental materials to connect with social identity labels.Then two pairs of patterns are presented successively using the change detection paradigm of sequential presentation.We studied 1).Whether visual working memory can discover the social significance of gestalt and promote its organization;2).Whether the promotion effect still exists in the use of more complex experimental materials;3).Whether the Self Reference Effect activated in the perceptual stage can promote the organization of graphics in the visual working memory stage.The results showed that compared with others and neutral conditions,the memory performance of the gestalt in working memory was significantly improved when it was represented as a self-connected graph.Therefore,this study provides evidence that selfrelated information facilitates the organization of gestalt in visual working memory.
