This translation report is based on the translation of The SAGE Encyclopedia of Intercultural Competence(from page 91 to114).The book is edited by Professor Janet M Bennett,who is a leading figure in intercultural education and training worldwide and who is also the executive director of the Intercultural Communication Institute.Rich in content,it offers us an authoritative and comprehensive material from various angles.The translator will be responsible for the translation of the part of the book which includes intercultural communication among people from different countries and regions and some intercultural theories.According to Newmark's text typology,this text is informative text.Semantic and communicative translating strategy will be applied to this translating practice.This report is comprised of five parts.The first part is a brief introduction to the background,significance,content and language feature of the source text;the second part is about translating process that includes pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation;the third part goes to talk about the theory and translating strategies guiding this practice;the fourth part is the case study that discusses how to achieve an equivalent effect among target text readers from different levels;in the last part,the translator concludes some deficiency and gains about this practice.
