A Report On Mock Interpretation On The Opening Ceremony Of The 12^th Confucius Institute Conference

China,a country with a vast territory,a long history and a splendid civilization,has developed rapidly since the reform and opening up.In recent years,China has become the world's second-largest economy.Chinese,a language with a long history as well as the mother tongue of more than 1.3 billion people,has led to a global phenomenon of “Chinese fever” that has been continually thriving in the 21 st century.The Confucius Institute is not only an official organization established by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban in China,but also a platform for the world to understand Chinese,which introduces opportunities to share Chinese culture and bridges friendships with other countries.In this report,under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model and Comprehension Equation,the author conducted a mock interpretation practice report on the “Opening Ceremony of the 12 th Confucius Institute Conference”.This practice report recorded all the processes related to this mock interpretation,including material selection,pre-translation preparation,interpretation strategies for the speaker's biased information,impromptu speech and the analysis of sentence structure in the process of interpretation,especially some coping tactics of culture-loaded words during interpretation.In addition,this report also discussed the dilemma encountered in the practice of this mock interpretation and the corresponding countermeasures and how to improve the interpretation quality in conference-related interpreting.Through the combination of mock interpretation practice and theory,the author drew the following conclusions in the process of interpretation: First,the interpreter should be aware that the rhetoric of the source language is more formal,and that some easy-to-understand words should be applied during the interpreting process.Second,in the process of coping with the speaker's deviation of the source language and the impromptu spoken language,the interpreter should handle it concisely so as to speed up the interpreting process and relieve the pressure of the interpreter.Third,when the interpreter encounters culture-loaded words in the source language,it is necessary to get rid of the restrictions of the original languages structure and form of the source language.Furthermore,adopting flexible methods to directly convey the meaning of the source language as well as the need to pay attention to cultural differences will lead to the improvement in the efficiency of intercultural communication.Fourth,the interpreter should convey correct information to the audiences when the speaker states incorrect information due to ignorance and tension.Fifth,in the future study and practice,the interpreter should improve the ability of the source and target language,enhance the competence of analysis and the ability of information processing,as well as fostering the learning of extralinguistic knowledge.Gile's effort model and comprehension equation provided great guidance for the author's mock interpretation practice.Through this practice,the author not only improved his ability of interpreting,but also realized his own deficiencies and the direction of further study in the future.To conclude,the author also had some reflections on the future interpretation.
