English reading is an effective way for students to understand western culture and social customs. What's more, students gain a large number of language input which can help improve their ability of language comprehension. At present, many English teachers have attached great importance to the teaching of English reading, but the effect of reading teaching is not satisfactory. In view of this, the author tries to carry out the"Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach" in the junior middle school English reading class, which was first launched by the Teaching and Research Office in Rugao City.In this mode, teachers design the activity sheets according to the requirements of the course curriculum and the cognitive levels of the students.Under the guidance of the activity sheets, the students learn by themselves first, and then discuss in groups to make further exploration, finally they show and exchange their learning results.During the whole learning process, teachers timely guide the students where they are deficient. The author makes the research to verify whether"Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach"has more active influence on English reading teaching in junior high school. This research is focused on three questions:1.Can"Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach" stimulate the students' interest in English reading?2.Can"Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach" effectively help students to employ strategies on English reading?3.Can"Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach" improve the students' grades in English reading? In order to make clear about the questions, the author carried out an experiment from February 2018 to June 2018,with students from two parallel classes and the other 4 English teachers of Grade8 in Banjing Junior High School in Rugao,Jiangsu Province as subjects and participants. The two classes are both taught by the author.Class 7 is the experimental class with a total of 56 students;Class 8 is the control class with a total of 56 students. At the beginning of the experiment,a questionnaire survey was conducted on the use of English reading strategies by junior high school students, and a pre-test was conducted as the original reference data.In the course of the experiment, the classroom observation is carried out to understand whether reading teaching based on the"Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach" can stimulate the students' reading interest and improve the students' reading participation. At the end of the experiment, the questionnaire survey was conducted again and a post-test was completed at the same time. The results of the two questionnaires and the test results were compared and analyzed. After four months of experiment, the following findings can be concluded:Firstly, the application of "Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach" to English reading teaching can stimulate the students' reading interest.Secondly, the students can use English reading strategies more flexibly after reading strategies training by applying the "Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach".Thirdly, the application of the"Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach" to English reading teaching can significantly improve the students' grades in reading, and the students' abilities in independent learning and cooperation have also been developed.Although the results of the experiment show that the application of the"Activity-sheets-guided Teaching Approach" to English reading teaching is superior to the traditional approach, the "activity sheets" should be carefully designed and the implementation process should be attached more importance. Finally, the author hopes to shed some light on the reform of education curriculum.
