Ling Tingkan’s Academic Exchange And Formation Of Ritual Thought

Ling Tingkan is a scholar of etiquette in the later period of Qianjia Textual Research.In his lifetime,the study of etiquette was the main one,and scholars of the rule of etiquette by people were no better than others.The formation and development of Ling Tingkan’s ritual thought is closely related to Ling’s academic exchanges in his life.It was also closely related to the surge of the thought of worshipping etiquette in the society at that time.As an important content of textual criticism,textual criticism of etiquette attracted the attention of many Confucian scholars at that time.So is Ling’s.The formation of Ling’s ritual thought has a profound social and academic background,which is a result of the prosperity of textual research and the trend of worship of rites,and is closely related to Ling Tingkan’s personal life and academic contacts.Ling’s circle of friends is very wide.Born in Haizhou,Jiangsu Province,he entered Yangzhou as a young man and established a deep friendship with Yangzhou School scholars.Later in Kyoto,he had a good acquaintance with scholars and officials of the Beijing Normal University.When he traveled around,he discussed academics with scholars who were local officials and staff.After middle age,he became an official in Anhui and discussed with scholars of Hui nationality,which was deeply influenced by scholars of Hui nationality.Wang Niansun,Kong Guangsen and Ren Dachun,the descendants of the Qianjia School and Wan School,had a close relationship with Ling Tingkan;Jiang Fan,the second disciple of Wu School,was Ling Tingkan’s good friend;Ruan Yuan of Yangzhou School was Ling Tingkan’s confidant all his life,Wang Zhong was Ling’s respected predecessor scholar;Weng Fanggang,a scholar official of Beijing Normal University,was Ling Tingkan’s mentor and had great academic guidance significance to Ling Tingkan;Shao Jin,a historian,was Han and Qian Daxin add up Ling’s glaucoma,while Yao Nai and Ling’s controversy of Tongcheng School is fierce.These contacts directly or indirectly affect the formation of Ling’s academic thought,which is very important for the formation of his ritual thought.The textual criticism of Qian and Jia Dynasty ranged from the original re-textual criticism to the later textual criticism to the new doctrine of Ling Tingkan and Ruan Yuan.As an important figure in the later period of Qianjia textual criticism,we must rethink the value and significance of Ling Shi.The popularization and practice of Ling Tingkan’s ritual thought was of great value to the society itself at that time.At the same time,it also has reference significance for us to treat Confucian classical literature today.
