"Yuan"(means circle or round)is one of the core categories of traditional Chinese aesthetics.It is a literary and artistic aesthetic concept that is "familiar when heard" and"smooth when talk,for the art critics.It is also a universal aesthetic principle.Therefore,the concept of "Yuan" as the beauty permeates the whole process of ancient Chinese literature and art movement.This paper,based on the practice of creation of Chinese classical literature and art and the discussion of aesthetic theory,tries to elucidate and summarize the connotation of the concept of regarding "Yuan" as beauty,and inspect the specific manifestation and function of this concept through three aspects—the psychology of "Yuan" during the creation,the embodiment of "Yuan" in concrete works,and the interaction of "Yuan" during the acceptance—so as to build up a basic system for the concept of "Yuan" as the beauty.The paper is a total of five parts,including three chapters plus the introduction and conclusion.The first chapter focuses on the psychology of the subject of the creation,and discusses the influence of the concept of "Yuan" as the beauty on the thinking of literary creation.This paper starts from the three aspects:firstly,the phase of preparation and conception of creation;secondly,the phase of thinking operation;lastly,the phase of experiencing the art's climax.By the analysis of“Xu Jing',(means void-quietness),"You"(means wondering)and "Wuwoheyi"(means things and I united as one),this paper tries to illustrate the "Yuan Ming"(means clear)of the aesthetic attitude,the "Yuan Huo"(means dynamic)of the mind status,the“Yuan Rong"(means integrate harmony)of aesthetic experience,revealing the projection of the advocation of "Yuan" in the mind level of the ancient writers,reflecting the aesthetic implication and spiritual wisdom of regarding "Yuan" as beauty.The second chapter foeuses on the appearanee of the object of creation,especially on the beauty of "Yuan" in literary works.The "Yuan" of art principle,the "Yuan" of artistic structure and the "Yuan" of artistic language are analyzed in turn.On the level of art principle,the beauty of "Yuan" is firstly reflected in the fact that the spirit of literature flows through in accordance with the principle of nature.It is also expressed while the meaning of the text is all over because of bearing the moral principle.And only with the combination of the pattern and meaning of the works,can the rational thought be shaped that both "Wen'(the aesthetics layer of art works)and "Dao"(the philosophieal layer of art works)are attached equal importance.On the level of artistic structure,the beauty of"Yuan" is embodied in the static circular structure and dynamic circular structure,that is,the beauty is in the rigorous balance,the coherence of the venation,and also in the ups and downs and flexible changes after gaining momentum.The strong artistic tension is created by the combination of dynamic and static elements.In terms of artistic language,beauty of "Yuan" lies in the sound and meaning of words.The beauty of "Yuan" is reflected in the tong,the pronunciation,and the rhyme,as well as the inherent strength of the words used,and the combination of the virtual and the real between the words.That is to say,the beauty of "Yuan" permeates all aspects of literary and artistic works,from the inside to the outside,from the bones and muscles to the flesh and blood.The third chapter of the thesis starts from the end of" Grand reunion"in the ancient Chinese opera to study the circle interaction of artistic acceptance.The "Yuan",of circle interaction has two meanings:on one hand,it refers to the aesthetic tendency of the audience to seek perfection;On the other hand,it refers to its communication mode,which is originated from the interactive characteristics of "view" and "perfornance" of the classical opera,that one opera begins with the end of another,revolving and circulating.The "Grand reunion" is the typical product of the circle interaction.Its causes and functions shows the multiple dimensions of the beauty of "Yuan".From the perspective of the cause of "Grand reunion",the beauty of "Yuan" comes from the ideas that good and evil have their own rewards under the influence of the concept of karma.And the beauty of "Yuan" is also affected by implication and impartiality of the neutral position.Moreover,the beauty of "Yuan" is reflected as superior management of narrative rhythm and various possibilities of narrative opening and closing.From the perspective of the function of "Grand reunion",its moral education of persuading people to correct the mistakes and leading people to be good,as well as its psychological adjustment of letting go of sorrow and hatred and bringing pleasures mind,makes the circular interaction of the whole drama complete,and connects the creation and aceeptanee of drama into a closed circle.Through an in-depth analysis of the ancient Chinese concept of "Yuan",it can be found that the ancient people's pursuit of the beauty of "Yuan" in literature and art has been implemented in various aspects,such as thinking and understanding,the words and sentences,and the aesthetic acceptance,showing a kind of harmonious and full spirit of Chinese culture.
