As an important proposition in Chinese traditional philosophy,"Xujing" concept plays a critical role in Chinese culture. Traditional "Xujing" concept has a intrinsically close relationship with "Tao" and been embedded in various theories such as Confucianism theory, Taoist theory and Buddhism theory. Taoist Theory holds the highest regard for it."Xujing" concept in traditional landscape painting theory not only shares the same basic idea in philosophy, but also possesses its own features. This article will elaborate the characteristics of "Xujing" concept in landscape painting theory in light of the "Xujing" idea in philosophy ande painting conduct an accurate discussion about "Xujing" concept in landscap theory from the perspectives of self-cultivation on " Xujing " of landscape painter, mentality of "Xujing" and landscape painting creation as well as interest and charm of "Xujing" in landscape painting."Xujing" is closely linked with Tao. It is the way that ancient people spiritualize the soul and improve their character for experiencing Tao, and also the spiritual state of brightness and tranquility presented by Tao."Xujing" in landscape painting theory features vacuous but substantial and dynamic while in the static state. The mind of "Xujing" refers to the mind of Tao, holding the characteristics of appreciation, transparency and vividness, all of which not only endow painters with sensitive aesthetic judgment but also make the cultivation of mind possible. Creativity brought by the mind of "Xujing" provides the creation of landscape creation with inexhaustible source.In terms of the self-cultivation of landscape painter, the mind of "Xujing", as a key criterion to measure painter’s character. It will exert a crucial influence on the style of landscape painting. Painter can improve his character of "Xujing" through several kinds of self-cultivation. Besides, hermit complex imposes great effect on the emergence and development of landscape painting while learning and morality of landscape is a primary kind of self-cultivation. Moreover, the mind of "Xujing" can guarantee that painter is able to flexibly make good use of artistic skills in order to achieve the state of "no skill". As far as creation is concerned, the mind of "Xujing" is not only the necessary condition for landscape painting creation and the basic guarantee for image’s emergence, but also the indispensable requirement for creation experience of landscape painting art. In the aspect of aesthetic interest and charm, Chinese traditional landscape painting has the mental orientation of "Anatman" and aesthetic criterion of "lightness". Meanwhile, the artistic features of ’reversed movement "and " wide space" are also the vivid presentation of infinite vitality of "Xujing"."Xujing" concept is embodied in every aspect of Chinese landscape painting and is the precious spiritual treasure elucidated by the ancient people time and again."Xujing" in the Chinese traditional landscape painting theory should be inherited and carried forward by contemporary landscape painters, who are also obliged to development a new artistic state in the new era.
