Nowadays,China's universities and colleges are enhancing the international communication and cooperation with the schools overseas.Ginling College,as the first institution of higher learning to award bachelor degrees to women in China, has kept in touch with the Seven Sisters colleges since its foundation. However, there is only few articles in Chinese introducing the relations between the Ginling College and the Seven Sisters colleges in a comprehensive and detailed way. This report is based on the translation of The Seven Sisters and Ginling College, which mainly elaborates the relationship between the Seven Sisters colleges and Ginling College by profiling some of the significant people and events, and can enrich the history of Ginling College in the aspect of international communication and cooperation.According to the text type theory put forward by K.Reiss, one of the representatives of the translation school of German functionalism,The Seven Sisters and Ginling College is an informative text, which focuses on the authenticity and objectivity of the content. Therefore,in the process of translation, the author uses a variety of translation strategies including explicitation in order to present the original information and content in an accurate and objective manner. This report first introduces the background knowledge and the significance of the project, and then discusses issues and difficulties in terms of words, sentences and discourses. There are three solutions to the lexical level:following the principles in translating names of persons, the utilization of assistant tools and adopting the strategy of explicitaion. As to the syntactic level, the main methods are amplification, omission and sentence reorganization. At the discourse level, the author adopts cohesion strategy. Finally, the author summarizes the experience and deficiencies in the translation process, and puts forward some suggestions and methods to provide reference for the translation of similar texts.
