The Change Of The Political Standpoint Of Ta Kung Pao In The Late Qing Dynasty And The Early Republic Of China(1902-1914)

Ta Kung Pao is one of the most socially influential Chinese newspapers in modern China.The newspaper has a strong research value and significance.Although the current research work on Ta Kung Pao has been fruitful,the study of the changes in the political position of Ta Kung Pao in the period of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,which was undergoing profound changes in China,still needs to be deepened.This article intends to use the transformation of the political position of Ta Kung Pao from 1902 to 1904 as an entry point,trying to depict the trajectory of the transformation of the political position of Ta Kung Pao and discovering the changes in the public opinion of the same period.This paper believes that after the official publication of the "Ta Kung Pao" in 1902,under the influence of its founder Ying Lian zhi,it showed the political position of the pro-news,mainly in propagating the constitutional monarchy and demanding the reign of Emperor Guangxu.After the Japanese-Russian War of 1905,the implementation of constitutional monarchy became the consensus of all walks of life in China.After the Qing Dynasty began preparations for constitutionalism,Ta Kung Pao ran a call for constitutional monarchy and eagerly hoped to implement constitutionalism as soon as possible.At this time,Ta Kung Pao became more and more connected with the constitutionalists and gradually became the most influential constitutional newspaper in the north.After the constitutionalists launched the petition movement the Ta Kung Pao also participated deeply.After the Wuchang Uprising,Ta Kung Pao strongly opposed the revolution.When the Qing dynasty was a foregone conclusion,Ta Kung Pao was reconciled to the reconciliation,demanding the preservation of the monarchy and the "virtual reunion." After the establishment of the Republic of China,the political position of Ta Kung Pao was reluctantly turned to the democratic republic,but the newspaper accepted the democratic republic with reservation.Ta Kung Pao does not accept the democratic republicanism led by the Kuomintang.Its political stance is more inclined to the party formed by the constitutionalists or the Yuanyangkai’s Beiyang system.After the Song case and the second revolution broke out,Ta Kung Pao attacked the Kuomintang to launch a revolution to undermine democracy and republic.When Yuan Shikai gradually undermined the democratic republic and established a dictatorship,Ta Kung Pao completely abandoned Yuan Shikai.The transformation of the political position of Ta Kung Pao is constrained by various factors such as political,economic,social public opinion,and changes in its editorial group.Since Ta Kung Pao clearly has the color of constitutionalism,it also reflects the interests and attitudes of the constitutionalists from one aspect.After sorting out the transformation of the political position of Ta Kung Pao,this article believes that no matter how the situation changes,"Ta Kung Pao" remains the political core of its "extension of the people’s rights" and the hope of China’s modernization.
