A Study On Opinions About Chinese Language In English Journals Published In China During 19th Century

19th century is one of the most important period for western to learn Chinese language.The sinology study about Chinese Learning and research published in the journals in China during this period obtained the effective communication,vigorously promoted the development of Chinese research at that time.This paper takes the Chinese Chinese Repository,Chinese Review,or Notes&Queries on the Far East,The Chinese and Japanese of facts and events in science,history,and art,relating to eastern Asia,Notes and Queries on China and Japan etc in the 19th century English journals in China as the research object,mainly to the analyzed the article about Chinese language study.According to the published time,to obtained the major opinions of Chinese language from the views of phonetics,grammar,Chinese characters,acquisition and variation in the journals of 19th century.The opinions of phonetics,based on the preliminary exploration of the Roman transcription methods before the 19th century,has experienced Morrison,John Robert Morrison,different transcription methods with suggestions,such as Wells Williams had a huge impact on later age,chaos scheme ended decades of Chinese phonetic alphabet,also became the reference of Chinese pinyin scheme;On the opinions of syntax,basically is to get rid of "Chinese without syntax" rhetoric,Chinese grammar has been further in-depth study from study of classical Chinese and word classes and so on.Reviews of Chinese grammar work is also an important wcrk during this period,it shows the great interacted between European linguistic and Chinese linguistic.Opinions of words and characters also gradually forming,by around a single Chinese character analysis to explore the study of Chinese characters "root".Scholars call should be in accordance with the western learning to write Chinese dictionary compiling dictionaries.And the published evaluation of the various types of Chinese-English bilingual dictionary and its contents,to explore a better Chinese-English dictionary compilation modes;Opinions on the Chinese language acquisition also became more clear,western scholars gradually get rid of the idea of "Chinese language is too difficult to learn”,and started to exchange the experience of Chinese learning and to shared Chinese textbooks and reference books.For the opinions of variation is two aspects,the researches of Chinese dialect and the documentary style.The author thinks that in the process of the promotion of Chinese as a foreign language today,should be combined with westerners’understanding of Chinese language,to know the correct points of these opinions,and reverse bias in parts,combining Chinese characteristics and the international promotion of Chinese language,in order to achieve the better work for promote the spread and promotion of Chinese language abroad.
