For English learners in China,the main way to gaining language input is English reading.Therefore,English reading is especially important for senior high school students.English reading teaching plays a significant part in English teaching of senior high schools.However,we always learn English in the way of traditional method which only pays attention to the meaning of the words,expressions,sentences and the explaining of important grammar.Because of the traditional method,the students lack of textual knowledge and their understanding of discourse stays on the surface of language.In other words,the traditional teaching method ignores the analysis of the whole discourse which means the students have no ability to use the language comprehensively.Therefore,how to make high school students more efficient in English reading has attracted the attention of senior high school teachers.This thesis tries to apply the discourse analysis theory to English reading teaching so that the author hopes to change the traditional teaching method and solve the problems in reading teaching.According to the discourse analysis,the study of language cannot be limited to the sentence level but treat discourse as a whole.Applying the theory of discourse analysis to English reading means analyzing the discourse from micro and macro perspectives which can make up for the disadvantages of the traditional English teaching method and improve the students’ skills of using language.Considering the current situation of the students in the author’s working school,the author made an investigation on the current situation of students’ English reading firstly and a teaching example was presented in the thesis to tested the effects of the English reading teaching under the guidance of the discourse analysis theory.The study aims at solving the following problems:1.What main problems do the senior high school students have in English reading?2.What are the effects of the application discourse analysis in English reading class of senior high schools?After the experimental research has been carried out,the grade of experimental class is better than control class.So this study concludes that applying the discourse analysis theory into English reading class can improve the students’ reading ability and their test scores.Besides,it can help students obtain more information from reading materials,for example,the students have mastered more cultural knowledge and can understand the author’s intention.It also reflects the shortcomings of this experimental study in this thesis.What’s more,the writer determines to make a further exploration in English reading teaching of senior high schools. |
