This paper is a report on English-Chinese translation practice. The original text is selected from Chapter IV of The Politics of English: Conflict,Competition,Co-existence.There are about 7,000 words in the English original text and more than 12,000 Chinese characters in the Chinese translation text. The book, compiled by Ann Hewings and Caroline Tagg, has not yet been translated in China up to now. This book has great research value and practical significance in language policy and language planning. If in-depth research on this field can be made,it will serve the construction of Chinese language planning better.According to Peter Newmark's method of text classification, the text of this book belongs to informative text.Guided by Newmark's theory of semantic translation and communicative translation, the author made an analysis of the problems encountered in the translation of this book and the corresponding translation techniques, and made an analysis of them with the help of translation cases. This translation report consists of four chapters. The first chapter describes the translation task, including the source of the translation task, the brief description of the translated text and the significance of the translation project.Chapter two describes the translation process, including preparation before translation, translation basis and translation methods, problems encountered in the translation process, and revision and proofreading after translation.Chapter three explores the translation techniques used in this translation from the lexical and sentence levels, and makes corresponding analysis of specific cases,it mainly describes the author's treatment of such four aspects as words' meaning, part of speech, passive sentence and word order in the process of translation. The last chapter is a summary of the whole translation practice report. The author expounds the quality of the translator, the unsolved problems in practice, the related thinking, and the inspiration and prospect for the future work.
