| Maurice Ravel(1875-1937),a French composer at the end of the 19 th century, was influenced by French Impressionist music at that time.He was another great composer of Impressionist music after Debussy. He inherited and developed Debussy’s impressionist style in his creative style and not only integrated French classical music tradition with it,but also fully absorbed various musical elements from different regions and nationalities, gradually formed his own harmony language, which had great influence in European music history. As one of his most important violin works,"Tzigane" perfectly integrates the elements of Hungarian folk gypsy music into his works through improvisational flamboyant playing skills and novel harmony techniques, showing strong Hungarian folk music characteristics. The author believes that the melody and harmony techniques used in "Tzigane" are of great research value. Therefore, this paper will focus on the analysis of its melodic features and harmony language, with a view to exploring Ravel’s unique creative style and harmony techniques. The paper consists of five parts:The first part: elaborates the theoretical and practical significance of the topic, determines the research methods, and reviews Ravel’s related literature. The second part elaborates Ravel’s life and the background of his times, and introduces his main works. The third part: Introduce the background of creating "Tzigane" and the material of Hungarian Gypsy folk music involved in the music. Then make a comprehensive tonal analysis of the music to grasp the structure and theme of the work. The fourth part: According to the melodic features and harmony techniques in the works, the logic of the harmony is carried out from the mode and scale(Tzigane scale,Medieval mode, pentatonic mode),the individualized use of chords(superimposed chords, additional chords, compound chords, high semitone and chord),and the logic of harmony proceeding(parallel proceeding, root proceeding, modalization and sound proceeding)is discussed in three aspects and makes a detailed analysis and study of "Tzigane".The conclusion part summarizes the individualization and acoustic techniques of Ravel’s "Tzigane",and further clarifies the theoretical value and far-reaching influence of the work. |
