The emergence and development of Chinese modern children’s literature has always been closely related to adult literature writers.In recent years,an increasing number of adult writers have crossed the line and channeled their creative efforts into literature for children,and among them stands Zhang Wei who gets a larger share of attention.From the perspective of children themselves,Zhang delineates young individuals with primal vitality,children who are imbued with adventurousness and awe for the world.Those protagonists reflect Zhang’s applause and love for the young.Zhang wei constructs the image of children in his works through the internal world and external world of individuals.No matter from the way of body and soul growth,or the direction of individual spirit development,these children’s images all reflect distinct personality characteristics.At the same time,Zhang Wei also used the individual external world to foil his children’s images.Among them,the interaction with strange and wonderful creatures is an important part of the external world.Zhang Wei applied childlike innocence and poetry to the creation of children’s novels,weakened the educational function of children’s images,explored the theme of growth,and strengthened the aesthetic significance of children’s literature texts.His views on the educational nature of children’s literature made the children’s images under his pen play an important exemplary role.The children created by Zhang Wei exhibit a maturity both in their outward demeanors and in their inward activities,a maturity regarded as highly inconsistent with their age.It adds a mien of adults to those child characters.This problem,however,has always haunted Chinese writersand has been taking various forms as time goes by.There are three reasons behind this:First,as an adult literary person,Zhang is bound to experience some difficulty in penetrating into the another sector of the literary world.A lack of insight into the readers of child literature leads him to inculcate in his characters too much grownup experience,thus child protagonists redolent of adult qualities.Second,Zhang’s works,though written from the standpoint of children,mainly sever to convey a desire that a“return” to young minds’ world can rekindle thoughts about how to develop human civilization.Consequently,Although zhang wei’s creation of children’s literature starts from children’s standard,he hopes to think about the way out of human civilization in such a way of "returning" to childhood,which makes the theme of his children’s novels profound,but also makes the original intention of creation vague and uncertain.Third,most of the children created by him come from memories about his own childhood,giving rise to severe repetitiveness in his characters.Hence,as we take such works into critical evaluation,we must do so while focusing on works themselves,treating them with proper reason and objective analysis.Only in this way can we hope to make a just assessment.
