Verb-copying construction refers to the sentence pattern that includes two repeated verbs, whose structure can be presented as “SVOVR”,where S stands for subject,V for the repeated verb,O for object and R for resultative phrase. Therefore,VO is the abbreviation of verb-object construction and VR is the abbreviation of verb-resultative construction.Since its first appearance in Wang Li's Chinese Grammar Theory,1 it has attracted much attention of scholars both at home and abroad. After a thorough analysis on the previous studies,it can be obviously concluded that the former studies mainly put emphasis on the generation, classification as well as the information focus of the verb-copying sentence. And few have paid attention to its conceptual representation from the perspective of cognitive grammar. Therefore, taking the resultative verb-copying construction as the research objective, the article is intended to make an attempt on its conceptual representation after a careful analysis on its semantic characteristics and classifications with a unified framework created on the cognitive grammar philosophies and the two-vector model. The thesis mainly covers three topics: Firstly, what are the semantic features of the resultative verb-copying construction? Secondly, how to reclassify the resultative verb-copying construction from a creative perspective? Thirdly, how to represent the conceptualization of the resultative verb-copying construction according to its semantic analysis and its classifications.Aside from providing a new prospective for further researches on verb-copying construction, via employing the theories both in linguistics and physics, this thesis also looks forward to offering an attempt for the interdisciplinary study.
