| As one of the most distinctive elements of Mongolian cultural translation,Mongolian costume translation is of high research value.After reviewing relevant studies on Mongolian costume translation at home and abroad,the author finds that there is little research in this field.Accordingly,this paper takes the excerpts in Illustrated Collection of Mongolian Costumes as the translation object and makes a study on the translation of Mongolian costumes under the guidance of skopos theory from different aspects,including the lexical level,syntactic level,and discourse level to emphasize the feasibility of the application of skopos theory to this translation practice.It also provides more possibilities and innovations for exploring the translation of Mongolian costume culture to promote the spread and communication of Mongolian costume cultures.The purpose of translation determines the specific means of translation.With the guidance of skopos theory,this paper sunmmarizes different translation strategies that can be used for Mongolian costume translation.Transliteration,literal translation,free translation,and transliteration with annotations are utilized to achieve the expression of names,places,terminologies,and cultural vocabularies.From the aspect of syntactic level,considering that there are large quantities of sentences with no subjects and parallel sentences,the author adopts syntactic linearity,adding the subject,using passive sentences,and the like to make the sentences conform to the conventional English expressions.On the discourse level,this paper focuses on the coherence of the target text by adjusting the word order or using clauses to ensure the transmission effect of the source information.This paper verifies the feasibility of skopos theory in guiding the translation of Mongolian costumes.However,some mistranslations caused by improper understanding still exist during the translation process.It is necessary for the translator to strengthen translation skills and strive for conveying the original information to the target readers as accurately and completely as possible,so as to provide an effective way to spread Mongolian costume cultures. |
