Research on affective teaching theory in second language acquisition has been carried out for a long time at home and abroad.The theory holds that affective teaching is closely related to knowledge teaching.Integrating teaching with affect has a close relationship with language learning and healthy personality formation of students.However,in the current English teaching in polytechnics,especially for the individual-recruitment students,most teachers pay attention to the teaching of language knowledge input as before,focus on the teaching of cognitive factors and language knowledge in limited teaching time,but ignore the attention to students’ emotional education.One the one hand,in the specific teaching implementation process,teachers have certain concepts of affective factors.However,there is a lack of comprehensive and systematic integration of affective factors into classroom teaching as a specific teaching method.Students(especially individual recruitment)learn in a dull classroom atmosphere and have passive learning motivation.On the other hand,students in polytechnics need teachers’ more affective attention because of their poor English scores,weak autonomy in English learning,bad learning habits,as well as low self-confidence in learning and anxiety in English learning.This study explores the use of affective teaching strategies by English teachers in polytechnics.And the study investigates and analyses the application of affective strategies in the teaching process in three polytechnics by means of questionnaires and interviews.The study finds that there are many emotional problems in English learning of individualrecruitment students in polytechnics,such as low interest in English learning,lack of self-confidence,strong self-esteem and high anxiety in learning.However,English teachers mainly focus on students’ mastery and learning of English knowledge,emphasizing the knowledge and skill goals of teaching,but neglect the assistant role of affective teaching in students’ English learning.In English teaching,the use of affective teaching strategies is neglected.The study holds that English teachers in higher vocational colleges should actively use affective teaching strategies to improve English teaching effect,promote the interest of single-enrolled students in English learning,cultivate their correct learning motivation,establish self-confidence in English learning,correct their learning attitude,exercise their will to overcome difficulties,and cultivate harmonious and healthy personality.
