The penalties of Xia,Shang and Western Zhou Dynasty,as an early part of our country's penalties,have important value.The types,rules and ideas of penalties contained in them have far-reaching influence on future generations.The penalty of our country can be traced back to the primitive society.The early clan customary law and military activities are the birthplace of penalty.The record of penalty in Xia Dynasty is too brief.In the Yin and Shang Dynasties,the internal execution records were more,and the oppression of the slave class was particularly harsh,with strong primitiveness and divinity.Compared with the previous period,the Western Zhou Dynasty paid more attention to internal domination,formulated a clear five-penalty system and sentencing principles,and produced the idea of bright virtue and careful punishment.This was a major manifestation of the maturity of the penalty system.Although it differed from political practice and was not fully implemented,the humanitarianism embodied in it marked that ancient politics had gradually reached a new height.
