The Progressive Intellectual Guo Xiangsheng’s Life Change In Late Qing Dynasty

In modern China,the social is full of upheaval,and the lives of the scholars also changed with the social upheaval.In the late Qing Dynasty,this changing society,Guo Xiangsheng completed the transformation of ups and downs of life,and starting to think new after the failure of the Imperial examination,from an official.In the late Qing Dynasty to an official in Republic of China,from a political official to a scholar who focus on education.This article focuses on the life experience of Guo Xiangsheng,a new scholar in the late Qing Dynasty.First,Investigating Guo Xiangsheng as a traditional scholar,how to get closer to the new ideas although he himself accepted the traditional education when faced with the failure of Imperial examination,the abolition of imperial examinations,and the rise of new education and new ideas,how can a traditional official open his new path and realize the beginning of life changes.Second,to discuss Guo Xiangsheng as an official in late Qing,how can he choose to be an official of the Republic of China although he was an official in the late Qing Dynasty especially after the Revolution of 1911,in the face of a series of social changes such as the end of the late Qing Dynasty and establishment the Republic of China.What changes occurred to Guo’s thought and the reasons behind this change.Third,to explore Guo Xiangsheng,who has a persistent pursuit of entering the politics,but when the career reaches a certain height,he is away from the political arena and focuses on education.The real reason hidden behind this process.Finally,In the turbulent society,Guo Xiangsheng also made his own life choice with the changes of society,and embarked on a new life path,from a traditional official to a new scholar,but some influences are also ingrained.After all,Guo,who is constantly advancing,is also carrying some contradictions between new and old societies.
