Along with the advancement of new curriculum reform and higher requirements for high school English teachers,the teacher should inspire students’ learning enthusiasm,emphasize their autonomous learning and improve their enjoyment and enthusiasm in English learning.In this context,"three principal focuses&five steps" teaching model came into being.The teaching model is to take students’all round development as the purpose,enable students to enhance their knowledge and improve their ability by autonomous learning and cooperative learning,so that students would want to learn,be happy to learn and be good at learning.Based on the theory of the teaching model,the research explores the feasibility of the application of it in high school English teaching.The study takes two classes,118 students of Grade One from the NO.1 Middle School of Sangzhi in Hunan Province as the subjects and adopts control experiment,questionnaire and test as its instruments,aims to answer the following three questions:(1)Can the application of the teaching model in high school English teaching enhance students’ motivation and activity in English learning?(2)Can the application of the teaching model help cultivate students’ good English learning habits and improve their English learning strategies?(3)Can the application of the teaching model help improve students’ English learning results?By setting up the experimental group and the comparative group,the experimental group uses the "three principal focuses&five steps" teaching model in English teaching and the comparative group uses the traditional teaching method in English teaching.According to the collected data of questionnaire and test,the results tell us:(1)The application of this teaching model in high school English teaching can enhance students’ motivation and make them become more active in English learning.(2)The application of this teaching model can help cultivate students’ good English learning habits and improve their English learning strategies.(3)The application of this teaching model can help improve students’ English learning results.Based on the above findings,this study shows the application of the "three principal focuses&five steps" teaching model in high school English teaching is feasible.
