Task-based Teaching,short for Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT),is a teaching method that learners try to fulfill their tasks at class through the guidance of teachers,which is a significant language teaching method brought about in 1980s by the foreign language researchers.As a development of Communicative Language Teaching(CLT)in recent years,the TBLT turns the basic idea of language application into practical use at class.And compared with CLT,the TBLT considers that only the students take part in and fulfill the "real world" tasks which is closer to daily lives,not just the"quasi-communication",can they improve their practical language abilities in real lives.This teaching method which is based on real life activities emphasizes the way that asks students to fulfill different kinds of tasks-about study,housework,talking about hobbies and so on,with their target language through classroom teaching,thereby to improve their comprehensive abilities in English by combing the knowledge with skills together.Through years of development,the TBLT has been growing vigorously in the key schools in some metropolis,and has already set up a series of successful cases of class teaching.Meanwhile,in some suburban and rural schools,the TBLT has also changed from a new word at the beginning to the topic of teaching and research.Therefore,based on the study about the theories of TBLT at home and abroad,and combing with the current situation of our teaching in middle school and the request of new curriculum standard of English,this paper is aimed at the survey and study on the application of TBLT model in middle school English classes,and conducts survey with parts of public and private middle schools in Chengdu City as well as suburban and rural middle schools throughout XinDu District(20 schools in total),in which way to summarize the situation and efforts of TBLT application,and to give advice on the obstacles as well asits flaws.As a result,the study and survey of this subject can help to develop both the teaching skills in class and related studies or theories.Eventually,we can get a conclusion that the TBLT has generated a unique teaching series in urban and suburban schools,which has been quite successful.However,it still needs more promotion at rural schools.Meanwhile,the TBLT has also been confronted with restrictions in certain class types and needs more improvement in the future.
