E-C translation of informative text of nature conservation is of great importance in spreading professional knowledge and enhancing the expertise of nature conservation.Cross-cultural communications in nature conservation have been steadily increasing with it being a hot issue in various nations and countries due to an increasingly prominent contradiction between humans and nature brought by global economic development. The report is an E-C translation practice of informative text of popular science readings, with the source text being an excerpt of Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 from the English book Save the Earth as a Career:Advice on Becoming a Conservation Professional(Second Edition),published in 2016 and co-authored by M.L.Hunter and A.J.K.Calhoun from the University of Maine,USA,and D.B.Lindermayer from the Australian National University,Australia. The report begins with a task description, including an introduction to the source text, the features of the source text, and the research significance. Then it moves to an illustration of the pre-translation preparation, the whole translation procedures as well as proofreading. What follows next is the specific case analysis of the report,in which translation techniques adopted in the translation practice are discussed under the guidance of Halliday and Hasan's Cohesion Theory. This part is also accomplished on a basis of a good understanding of the features of the source text and a comparative study of cohesive devices both in English and Chinese. The report finishes with reflections on the experience and problems collected and involved in this translation practice. As a part of translation practice, the report focuses itself on a detailed analysis on how some specific translation techniques are employed to deal with each kind of the cohesive devices in the source text,by conforming to the rules of Chinese and English cohesive devices respectively,in which a diverse range of translation techniques are introduced, such as omission, repetition, conversion, amplification, semantic reconstructing,ect..In conclusion, the translation practice of this report shows that Cohesion Theory is not only an effective method for translators to understand semantic relations in source text, but also plays a key role in ensuring the semantic and structural coherence of target language as well as a high quality of informative text translation.
