This is a report on the translation of the first and second chapters of Vladimir Propp's Theory and History of Folklore,a masterpiece of cultural and social functions.It represents the outstanding achievements of this famous contemporary linsuist,folklore expert,and social ethicist.This report extracts the first two chapters as materials for translation practice.The difficulties in translation practice refer to the translation of names,the translation of academic words and folktales.This report mainly uses the polysvstem theorvr as the theoretical guidance by the famous cultural theorist Evan-Zohar.To be prominent,translators can analyze texts through interdisciplinary research methods.emphasize the subjective construction of the system,and carry out textual communication that conforms to the cultural traditions of translation,social constraints,and public aesthetics.In addition,the text translation is translated by the method of literal translation plus footnote,the translation method and paraphrasing.as well as the choice of domestication and foreignization under the guidance of polysystem.Because the author introduces methods such as annotations and examples in the process of introducing folklore theory and history,and the translation strategy should be used flexibly so that the translation is not bound by the original form and the literal meaning,and the literal meaning is realized.Go to the goal of cultural meaning.The case studies exemplified in these difficult points constitute the content of the article and are the most important content of the text.As a translation practice,the writer read the original English text carefully,and grasped the understanding of the differences between English and Chinese language culture background and thinking mode,choose different translation strategies and expressions,so that the translation can accurately convey the author's intention,and the original form.Try to be consistent and strive to achieve the desired literary effect.so that the target readers can encounter the same reading enjoyment.
