Study On The Modern Literary Translation History Of China From The Polysystem Perspective

This thesis aims to analyze modern literary translation history of China from the Polysystem perspective. While presenting the Polysystem Theory and other related theories, the paper attempts to employ Polysystem Theory to explain the specific translation phenomena of China and further explore its significance and limitation.Even-Zohar's Polysystem Theory has made great contribution to the translation study and Chinese scholars have adopted the theory to analyze the specific translation history of China, which greatly enlarges the horizons of Chinese translators. The author holds the strong view that Polysystem Theory is authoritative in explaining modern literary translation history of China. However, few researches have made attempt to explain modern literary translation history of China from the Polysystem perspective. This paper compares existing studies on Polsystem Theory and finds that these researches more or less have some shortcomings and they cannot solve above problem.The May 4th Movement is a typical transition period, in which great changes happened in thought, culture and new literature development,and translated literature assumed a dominant position in the modern literary translation history of China. This paper takes the Polysystem as a guiding theory to explain modern literary translation history of China. It introduces the Polysystem Theory and its historical background and reviews the modern literary translation history of China. Based on the above research, the author concludes that the Polysystem Theory exerts its positive meaning to the modern literary translation history of China, while there are remaining some disadvantages about the theory, which are insufficient in explaining modern literary translation history of China.The main research contents of this thesis are to make use of Polysystem Theory and other related theories to analyze the features of modern literary translation history of China and discuss its significance and limitation in explaining modern literary translation history of China. In order to analyze the modern literary translation history of China from Polysystem Theory, this paper mainly adopts the qualitative analysis method, which is carried out in analyzing current problems, evaluating features.By using the Polysystem Theory to study the modern literary translation history of China, the thesis presents readers with unique vision in translation study. The author expects that the study onthis thesis can provide richer and more effective guidance to the translation study.
