| As an important part of Modern poetry,Imagist poetry occupies a unique position in literary history with its distinctive creative style and artistic achievement,and has exerted great influence on the poetry creation in later generations.Created by Ma Zhiyuan,Tune of Tian Jing Sha: Autumn Thoughts has irreplaceable position and unique value in Chinese literature and is widely accepted as one of the masterpieces in praising autumn thoughts.However,the present researches concentrate on aesthetic appreciation,researches from perspective of discourse analysis are insufficient.Explicit and implicit cohesion are two important approaches to constitute cohesion and coherence in a text.Except for five explicit cohesive means including reference,substitution,ellipsis,connection and lexical cohesion proposed by Halliday and Hasan.Implicit cohesion is a supplement to the Cohesion Theory.Instead of depending on explicit forms within words,implicit cohesion relies on contextual factors which embody a semantic relationship in discourse.Implicit cohesion is frequently applied in the poem,thus blazing a new way in studying its translation.Under the theoretical framework of implicit cohesion theory and poetry translation theory,this paper interprets five typical English versions of Tune of Tian Jing Sha: Autumn Thoughts.On the one hand,this paper summarizes the applied three main implicit cohesive means.Implicit cohesion realized by context including situational context and cultural context,by image and by logic relation.This thesis probes further the feasibility and effectiveness of this theoretical perspective and makes contribution to translation studies.On the other hand,it analyzes the potential elements which will lead to readers’ misreading in the translated versions of the poem,and provides convenience for the target language readers to appreciate the artistic conception and artistic charm of this poem.Theoretically,this study clarifies the definition of implicit cohesion.Implicit cohesion refers to the linguistic phenomenon of cohesion and coherence between sentences and paragraphs by means of contextual and semantic relationships rather than obvious textual cohesion.In its application,it is found that the translator’s different ways to translate implicit cohesion in original poem have different effects on artistic conception reappearance.Though in the process of translation,the form of the original poem is important,the artistic conception of the poem and the emotion of the poet are more important.Cultural context is a significant factor that influences theinterpretation of target language readers.Therefore,to better convey the artistic conception translators should make adjustments in their translation. |
