The Study On The Phonological System Of Yinyin Qiuzi

YinYin QiuZi is a dictionary compiled by Xie Size who came from Yongjia living in the late Qing Dynasty.The standard of the dictionary is Yongjia(Nanxi)dialect in the late Qing Dynasty.No scholars paid attention to YinYin QiuZi and studied it for a long time because the dictionary is a local document and it has not been formally published.This thesis takes YinYin QiuZi as the research subject,then trys to reconstruct the phonetic system of YinYin QiuZi by studying it,comparing it with modern Yongjia dialect,modern Wenzhou dialect and the transliteration of Bible which is translated by a missionary lived in the similar age of Xie Size's.This thesis consists of seven chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the research aims,methods and significance of this thesis.It also introduces the general situation of YinYin QiuZi,including the background,publication,style and nature of the book.Chapter 2 discusses the initial consonant system of YinYin QiuZi.We reconstruct the consonant system of Yongjia dialect which was used in the late Qing Dynasty by means of historical comparison and internal reconstruction.Chapter 3 discusses the vowel system.Xie Size divided the vowels of YinYin QiuZi into 36 "rhymes".The "rhymes" of YinYin QiuZi and the vowels are not the one-to-one matched.On the basis of the material provided by YinYin QiuZi,we reconstruct the vowel system of Yongjia dialect in the late Qing Dynasty by clarifying the relationship between “rhymes” and vowels.Chapter 4 introduces the tone system.Chapter 5 lists the homophonic alphabet.Chapter 6 compares the similarities and differences between the phonological system of Middle Ancient Chinese and YinYin QiuZi.We discuss the historical sources of phonological system of YinYin QiuZi from three aspects: consonant system,vowel system and tone system.Chapter 7 compares the similarities and differences between phonological system of modern Yongjia dialect and YinYin QiuZi.We explore the development of Yongjia dialect in the late Qing Dynasty from three aspects: consonant system,vowel system and tone system.
