Since the 1980 s,the effect of mind mappings on reading comprehension has gradually aroused interests among the researchers at home and abroad.Some of these researchers studied the relationship between the mind mappings and related vocabulary,the relationship between the mind mappings and related grammar,while few studies are focused on the application of the mind mappings in English reading.It is even rare to see the researches about the application in English reading teaching in high school.It is obvious that English reading is an important part of English teaching in senor high school,which can not only reflect the language skills of the students,but can also help them improve their abilities in reading application with doubt.The New Course Syllable for Senior High Schools which was published by Ministry of Education in 2017 clearly indicated the requirements in English reading.Specifically,English reading is needed to develop a certain level of reading comprehensive competence and the ability to use.The students are required to have the subjective initiative in learning English reading and cultivate good reading habits.Moreover,their abilities of integrating articles will be improved gradually as well as reading speed and reading abilities.As a reading instrument,mind mappings can combine knowledge,images,symbols with colors,making knowledge presented in a specific way.At the same time,it contributes to helping students memorize knowledge,which will greatly improve students' English reading abilities.Therefore,the study of the application of mind mapping in English reading teaching in senior high school has theoretical and practical significance.This study is aimed to explore whether mind mapping motivates senior high school students' interests in reading English and improves reading abilities.It is a quantitative research.The subjects of this study were 82 senior-one students from two classes.These two classes chosen as research subjects are from one of the ordinary high schools in Jiaxing,class 1 was an experimental class while class 2 was a controlled class.The research attempts to explore the two research questions: 1)To what extent can the application of mind mapping motivate senior high school students' interests in reading English? 2)To what extent can the application of mind mapping improve students' English reading abilities? In order to explore these two questions,mind mapping was adopted in the experimental class while the control class still adopted the traditional reading teaching methods in English reading process.After four months,the research dates was collected and analyzed by using questionnaire survey and tests.By processing and analyzing the data by SPSS 19.0 software and comparing the questionnaire data and reading tests scores of the experimental class with the controlled class,here comes the conclusion.The analysis and data showed adopting mind mapping in English reading teaching can motivate the students' interests in reading.In addition,students' English reading abilities can be improved by using mind mapping.
