A Design Of A Conversational Book Of Hotel Chinese Based On The Analysis Of Needs

Since 1964,in the book The Linguistic Science and Language Teaching written by M.A.K Halliday,the concept of "ESP(English for special purposes)was mentioned,and researches about second language teaching for special purposes began,aiming at meeting specific requirements of different language learners.During the time of author's internship process,the author found that the students he taught,as the foreign inter students who have their short-term internship in China in the profession of hospitality management and with zero Chinese proficiency,have very clear needs to leam Chinese,that is,to learn Chinese expressions that serve their work.However,after searching the existing teaching materials,no material that is entirely suitable for them was found.This is the origin of the idea of studying this subject.This thesis was divided into five parts?The first chapter is the introduction part,which mainly explains the origin of the topic and the significance of the research,sorted out the previous research result,it also talked about the ideas and methods of the research.The second chapter is about the situation of the second language teaching publications for hotel services and the situation of the Chinese language teaching publications for hotel services.In the third chapter,motivations and need of learning Chinese of the foreign short-term intern students in China whose profession is hospitality management were obtained by collating,surveying and analyzing the results of the questionnaires.The objects and the goals of teaching were analyzed in the fourth chapter for choosing the appropriate topics.Session diagrams were constructed according to the topic for designing the conversational contents in the hotel Chinese textbook which is suitable for the foreign short-term intern students in China whose profession is hospitality management.Some designed contents were used in the class experiments for investigating the satisfactions and suggestions of the students.Chapter five is the summary of this subject.Through this study,the problem in shortage of teaching materials for the foreign intern students of Hainan College of Vocation and Technique who majored in hospitality management can be solved in a short while,and the results of this study will be able to be transferred into books quickly,meanwhile it also filled up some emptiness in the field of Chinese language teaching for special purposes,especially for the Chinese teaching related to the field of hospitality management.
