David Hume is a great empiricist philosopher in the world. His investigation and analysis of causality is the most influential part of his philosophical works. His researches results have not only caused a great influence in the western philosophy field all the time, but also become a standing topic for later scholars to interpret. While examining Hume's process of exploring causation,it also expounds some new scholars'interpretations of Hume's causation and provides some ideas for better understanding and exploring his causal ideas. It is divided into three parts, which are as follows:Firstly,it analyzes the concept of "cause and effect".There are two aspects as follow:on the one hand,it makes an etymological analysis of the related concepts of "cause and effect",and examines the process of formation and evolution of words such as causation, cause and effect from the perspective of etymology. On the other hand, the author expounds the view of cause and effect of some other philosophers in the history of western philosophy, which helps us to understand the connotation of cause and effect better.Secondly,it introduces the main content of Hume's thought of cause and effect. It is about Humean understanding of the connotation of cause and result,Humean concept theory, and Humean classification of relationship. On this basis,Humean doubts about causality are introduced. Then, the author combs Humean inquiry process on the origin of causal concept, and points out the conditions for the formation of causal concept. Then, through Humean in-depth investigation of the formation conditions of causal concept, the essence of causal concept is analyzed. Finally, the author evaluates Hume's thought of cause and effect, and emphasizes the theoretical achievement and historical importance of Hume's thought of cause and effect.Thirdly,it expounds the contemporary scholars'interpretation of Hume's thought of cause and effect. These scholars interpret Hume's thought of cause and effect from the perspectives of realism,anti-realism and quasi-realism,which provide some different ideas for understanding Hume's thought of cause and effect.Hume's thought of cause and effect has a very important inspiration to the development of philosophy and science. With the development of philosophy and science,it is believed that scholars will have more perspectives to interpret Hume's thought of cause and effect, and Hume's thought of cause and effect will certainly show more new interpretations.
