The Discussion About Ma Heng's Seal Cutting Art

Ma Heng is a scholar-type seal engraver in modern and contemporary Chinese printing circles.As a philologist of epigraphy,he has intervened in seal engraving practice with his knowledge,which has certain typicality and representativeness.The purpose of this paper is to explore the reasons for the formation of Ma Heng's seal-cutting style,clarify the guiding relationship between Ma Heng's seal-cutting concept and practice,and explore the pros and cons,so as to enlighten contemporary seal-cutting creation.The contents of the article include: clarifying Ma Heng's seal theory,analyzing the reasons for its formation from the educational background and life experience;explaining the causes and evolution of Ma Heng's seal engraving style,taking his life experience as an important node to analyze the evolution of seal engraving style;verifying Ma Heng's seal theory and his seal theory mutually,analyzing the expression of his seal theory in seal engraving practice;Ma Heng's pros and cons in the practice of seal cutting have gained enlightenment.The innovation of this paper lies in: 1.In the process of research,we collect data extensively,sort out Ma Heng's life,and then analyze the reasons for the formation of Ma Heng's concept of seal learning in the light of his educational background and life experience.2.The formation and evolution of Ma Heng's seal carving art style are analyzed from the aspects of Ma Heng's academic background and creative purpose.3.Maheng's "Fan Jiang Zhai Yin Chuan" is analyzed,and the frequency of different characters is counted.On this basis,a summary is made.
