| This report is based on the translation practice of English material text “The State of Broadband: Broadband catalyzing sustainable development(2017)”(excerpt),which is commissioned by Sichuan kerui engineering technology service co.,Ltd(Liangshan branch),and summarizes the global broadband situation in 2017,global trends in broadband connectivity and technology,development tendency of the policy and regulatory and its application in promoting sustainable development.The main purpose of this translation is to transmit information to this company.Given the purpose of the translation project,the author carries out the translation practice based on the Skopos theory.As a scientific and technological English style,the use of professional vocabulary and the use of long sentences,passive voice sentences and nominalization are very frequent in telecommunication English.With pre-translation preparation,the author of this report analyzes the characteristics of words and phrases in telecommunication English in detail,and applies a large number of examples to analyze how to use literal translation,transliteration with annotation,amplification,omission and conversion to translate key and difficult terminologies and sentences in the source language text based on the three rules of Skopos theory.The author of this report completes the translation project which is specified by the client on time.In the process of translation,the author of this report also finds that there are some defects in understanding the long sentences and terms.Through this translation practice,the translation methods for the telecommunication English text are summarized,which provides a reference for the translation of similar scientific English texts in the future. |
