Learned helplessness refers to the incompetent and resigned mentality of the individual after successive frustrations.It is a negative psychological state manifested in the individual's emotions,cognition,and behavior.After this,the individual often shows behaviors such as depression,motivational declining,and cognitive dissonance.Based on the previous literature theory,this study proposes the concept of learned helplessness of foreign students.The learned helplessness of foreign students refers to the state after students who have the potential to learn Chinese well can't achieve their goals.It's usually occurred after continuous efforts but with study failure.It gradually produces a mental state of learning burnout,lacking of motivation,powerlessness,and self-abandonment.The learned helplessness of Chinese learners is a pessimistic negative cognitive style that has a negative impact on Chinese learning.This paper selects undergraduate students from Malaysia and Japan who are in China as subjects of the study.This paper uses a hybrid research method combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis.After using the questionnaire of learned helplessness to foreign students,the SPSS statistical software is used to analyze the overall of the learned helplessness of the interviewer.I select ten students with the lowest scores of learned helplessness to conduct in-depth interviews.After translating the content of the in-depth interviews,I use the software NVivo11 to process the text content,and summarize the impact on the undergraduate factors affecting students learning Chinese learned helplessness.The purpose of this paper is to solve the following problems:1.Are the undergraduate foreign students in China with a learned helplessness during Chinese learning?Who have a more significant tendency on the learned helplessness?2.What are the reasons for the learned helplessness of foreign students who study in China?What factors have a crucial impact on the acquisition of the learned helplessness on Chinese learning?The innovation of this paper is mainly reflected in the following three aspects:First,research theme.This paper selects the negative psychology of Chinese learners' learned helplessness.And it studies the negative psychology of Chinese learners from the macro level,and provides targeted feedback for Chinese teaching.Second,the research object.The subjects selected in this paper are Chinese undergraduate students from Malaysia and Japan who are in China.They are studying in the Chinese Language Department,andstudy for obtain the undergraduate degree certificate as the graduation goal.The selected subjects are different from the traditional multi-country training system students.Third,research methods.Traditional Chinese as a second foreign language research method mostly adopts a single quantitative method,and this paper adopts the quantitative qualitative mixed research method.The study found that the undergraduate foreign students have a moderately low level of learned helpleness.Through qualitative analysis,two factors affecting the acquisition and helplessness of undergraduate students in China are obtained:individual traits and external environment.The two types of influence factors cover language learning experience.Chinese learning requirements,learner individual differences.These five aspects of language environment and project management are embodied in 14 influencing factors.This paper believes that Chinese learners should objectively understand their own Chinese proficiency,formulate short-term goals that are appropriate to them.And they should clarify long-term goals and rationally adjust their own learning strategies with the guidance and help of the instructors.The instructors should focus on the individual differences of the students.Project managers should strengthen full-time management,pay attention to the negative learning behaviors of international students,and try to prevent and interfere with the students' learned helplessness,which prevent the deepening of learned helplessness.
