The subject of the translation project is selected from the eighth chapter of the work The Confidence Game: Why We Fall for it…Every Time,whose author is Maria Konnikova who is a psychological columnist for New York Times.This book introduces the long history of swindle through the author’s brief description and contains ten chapters.The eighth chapter illustrates some psychological factors related to the confidence game,such as sunk-cost fallacy,the endowment effect,by narrating the famous Knoedler Gallery selling fake paintings and Teton Dam crashing down.This source text belongs to the informative text according to Reiss’ s text typology theory.Under the guidance of the theory,this report explores how to use the translation methods in the process of translating and uses the principles of text typology as a guideline to solve the problems at both lexical and syntactic levels,hoping the translation conforms to the understanding mode of the target readers and realizes the effective information transfer between the source language and the target language.
