Critical Thinking:the basics,an accessible and engaging indroduction to the field of critical thinking, was written by Stuart Hanscomb,a Lecturer in Philosophy and Communication at the school of Interdiscriplinary Studies.University of Glasgow. The primary purpose of this translation aims at approaching the field of argumentation logic, which meets the needs of the current market.Besides, the author can gain some translation experience on this area.On basis of the translation in Chapter 4,7 and 8(selected according to the relevance of contents),this paper will be analyzed from four aspects in light of the characteristics and difficulties of the text, namely vocabulary, sentences, discourse and punctuation. In terms of vocabulary, the report mainly discusses the translation of terms and common words;in the syntactic aspect,it mainly deals with the translation of passive sentence and complicated sentences;in the discouse aspect,it carries on the analysis from the context and the cohesive structure;and in the aspect of puntuation, the translation of dashes and parentheses are discussed. In the process of the translation, the importance of the following cannot be overstated.First of all, professional background knowledge in this field should be acquired and the logical reasoning of the source language should be deeply understood.Secondly,a large number of parallel texts should be read and analyzed with the help of the Internet searching tools, professional dictionaries and relative books. In addition, some common words should be translated professionally and logically instead of literally. Finally, the translation principle of puntuation should be the contents rather than the form.Currently, the translation research on critical thinking and logic are relatively weak, therefore it is of great significance to have insightful studies in this area. After reading this book, the author believes that it will be of great benefit to the readers in understanding and developing the knowledge and skills needed to avoid poor reasoning,to reconstruct and evaluate arguments. At the same time,it is expected to provide some feasible suggestions for the translation in this field by exploring the translation of the text so as to contribute to the logic translation.
