Faced with the development and requirements of modern urbanization, the phenomenon of “lost land” as one of the world’s urban diseases is widespread in China’s current society. The industrial construction is not only an economic issue but also a subversion of the entire social and cultural values.change.As the first country to complete the industrial revolution, the United Kingdom has made its own example for the countries of the world.China’s modernization construction is closely followed, and China’s social problems reflect the shadow of the former. Therefore, based on the rapid development of China and the UK,the thesis selects writers Zhang Wei and Hardy as the typical texts on the boundary of the changes of the two countries.Through detailed reading of the text,on the basis of reading Hardy’s series of "Wessex" novels and Zhang Wei’s works, the theme of "lost land" in literature is defined, and the peasants lose the land on which they live and become the earth. The perspective of the "floating person" and the city’s "outsiders" is the starting point, exploring the image of "landless peasants" under different creative subjects, comparing the images of migrant workers in Zhang Wei and Hardy’s novels, and analyzing the phenomenon of land loss. The reason reflects the writer’s humanistic care and critical consciousness to the bottom people, and finally infers the historical trend of the Chinese and English lost themes. It is clear that under the crushing of industrial civilization, the loss of land as a heavy cost of social progress will inevitably lead to the crisis of rural civilization and the confrontation and resistance of urban and rural culture. The thesis consists of four chapters: The first chapter takes the large-scale original farmland into an industrial development zone and becomes the object of capitalist plunder. It is used as a physical carrier and defines the theme of “lost land” in literary works. The second chapter compares the relationship between Zhang Wei and Hardy and discusses the differences between urban and rural geographies. The third chapter analyzes the similarities and differences between the two writers’ works and perceives the writers.Different attitudes towards the phenomenon of land loss, discussing the collapseof spiritual home brought by people and the change of social and cultural values behind it;Chapter 4 Looking into the future of the theme of lost land: even though the rural culture is characterized by virulence, the construction of rural city becomes new The craze, utopian villages or will be the carrier of people’s permanent pursuit.
