Integration And Outreach

The watermark printmaking of China is an important subject,which is worth studying.On the one hand,it is the oldest kind of printmank and the source of world printmaking.On the other hand,it is also the most dynamic and potential kind of printmaking in Chinese comtemporary printmaking.In the area of Chinese comtemporary printmaking,it has been showing amazing activity.From the period of "New Woodcut Movement" to nowdays,the watermark printmaking has become a new art language that represents the national aesthetics,conception and emotion of artists".It presents a developing way that bases on tradition but keeps integrating and outreaching at the same time.We can find it in two ways:firstly,the integration of different subjects' languages and the purification of creating skills;secondly,the outreach of painting situation.This thesis basically study on the representative illustrations of watermark printmaking from the beginning of "New Woodcut Movement" in the nineteen-thirties to nowdays.It clears up the history of Chinese comtemporary printmaking,interprets the historical situation,skills and conception of watermark printmaking in different period,and finally gets the conclusion that "the things that we integrated and outreached are not only skills,but spirit and conception".In the last part of thesis,I put forward and record my new experimental attempt of watermark printmaking and rethink questions of printmaking through this case.
