Vocabulary teaching is the key to English teaching in senior high schools. However, there are many problems in English vocabulary teaching in senior high schools.Traditional teaching method emphasizes more on passive vocabulary memory, which ignores the influence of interest and learning strategies on vocabulary learning.Students' vocabulary learning effect is far from satisfactory through the rote learning. Therefore, more and more scholars begin to explore new vocabulary teaching methods to change this situation.Narrative Approach is first put forward by professor Xiong, who advocates using narrative methods to present language knowledge in foreign language teaching.Teachers create a real situation or possible world for students,so that students can integrate into the situation to the greatest extent.Let students acquire language knowledge in the cognitive activities of life and art.Vocabulary learning is an important part of language learning. This study aims to use the Narrative Approach to guide senior high school English vocabulary teaching, and try to solve the following three problems:Question 1: Can the Narrative Approach stimulate students' interests in vocabulary learning?Question 2: Can the Narrative Approach optimize students' vocabulary learning strategies?Question 3: Compared with traditional teaching method,is the Narrative Approach more effective in improving students' vocabulary achievement? The subjects of this study are 97 students from two parallel classes of Senior Two in No.2 senior high school in Huludao, including 49 students from the experimental class and 48 students from the control class. The experimental class adopts Narrative Approach, while the control class adopts traditional teaching method. Both qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis are used in this study.Data are collected through questionnaires and tests, and analyzed by SPSS.The experiment lasts about four months from September 3rd,2018 to December 21 st,2018.The results show that Narrative Approach can stimulate students' interest in vocabulary learning, optimize students' learning strategies and improve students' vocabulary learning achievement effectively.Based on the research results and practical experience of this teaching method, some pedagogical implications for the Narrative Approach are put forward by the researcher. At the same time, the limitations of this experiment and suggestions for future research are also pointed out.
