In the first half of the twentieth century,at the time of the establishment of modern university Chinese science,a large number of well-known educators and scholars came into being and devoted themselves to the teaching of University Chinese.In the long-term thinking and practice,many unique theories of University Chinese teaching have been formed.However,this precious wealth has not yet been systematically studied.This paper mainly focuses on modern scholars' teaching theory of Chinese and related historical materials,combing,classification,induction,summary,to help the research of Chinese teaching theory in universities to move forward,and to provide reference for the reform and development of Chinese teaching in universities at present.This paper is divided into four parts to discuss:The first part discusses that understanding of the nature of University Chinese curriculum from three aspects: practicability,literary theory and instrumentality.In the second and third parts,the teaching theory discussed by modern university scholars is studied.From the two aspects of goal and process,this paper points out that the goal of Chinese reading teaching in universities is to understand and appreciate,prepare for writing,and discuss the reading teaching theory from three levels of reading guidance: pre-class preparation,in-class guidance and after-class reading.Focusing on the goal of "writing smoothly and legally",this paper discusses the writing teaching theory of complete training and guidance for students to write questions and corrections.The fourth part discusses the debate between Classical and Vernacular in the teaching of Chinese in Universities in the first half of the twentieth century.This paper mainly discusses the origin of the debate between classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese,the introduction of vernacular Chinese into University Chinese teaching,the debate on the theory of classical Chinese teaching in the 1930 s and1940s,and the debate on the value of classical Chinese teaching.It also explains thedevelopment of University Chinese teaching under the background of the debate between Classical Chinese and Vernacular.
