| With the deepening of economic globalization and China’s "one belt and one way" initiative,cross-cultural communication among countries has become increasingly frequent.Many countries and regions have classified Chinese as a strategic language,and people are eager to learn Chinese language and Chinese culture.In today’s world characterized by globalization,internationalization,diversification and informatization,the main goal of cultural teaching of Chinese International Education in the new century is to cultivate learners’cross-cultural competence centered on cultural sensitivity,insight and positive attitudes towards different cultures.Although there are some studies on the beliefs and practices of teachers’ cross-cultural teaching in the current international Chinese teachers’cross-cultural teaching,the relevant studies in Chinese academia still focus on theoretical research,especially empirical research is scarce.Most of the existing studies adopt single qualitative research methods,such as questionnaires,scales or interviews.However,few researchers adopt a mixed research method combining qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate teachers’cross-cultural teaching situation for a long time.In this study,52 international Chinese teachers who have worked in eight countries were investigated by means of questionnaire and semi-structured interviews.The purpose of this study is to find out the cross-cultural awareness and practice of cross-cultural teaching in Chinese culture teaching.Empirical research attempts to explore and answer the following questions:1.How do international Chinese teachers perceive cultural teaching?2.What is the cross-cultural awareness of international Chinese teachers in practical teaching?3.What is the teaching practice of Chinese culture for international Chinese teachers and what is the relationship between the teaching practice and teachers’cross-cultural awareness?4.What factors are related to the above concepts and practical phenomena?5.What are the implications of the above survey for the training of international Chinese teachers and the cross-cultural teaching of international Chinese?Through investigation and interviews,this study finds that in the actual teaching of Chinese culture,there are the following situations:Chinese teachers’theoretical understanding of the orientation of cultural teaching objectives is inconsistent with the actual practice;teachers’ cross-cultural awareness of cultural teaching exists in the form of subconscious;teachers’cultural teaching mentality is equal and peaceful;and teachers’ cultural teaching mentality is in the form of subconscious.Introduce the most comprehensive and authentic attitude towards culture teaching in China;have certain cross-cultural sensitivity in dealing with cultural conflicts,but the ability of cross-cultural coping needs to be improved;the awareness of "language","text"combination and cross-cultural contrast is strong,but the form is still more important than the content;the choice of cultural content is mainly based on textbooks,supplemented by Life theme,pay attention to conventional topics,avoid sensitive controversy;teachers’cross-cultural literacy,the body is weak,attitude is good,skills continue to improve,awareness needs to be strengthened.Based on the above findings,the author puts forward the following suggestions:first,to clarify the multiple roles of international Chinese teachers in cultural teaching and enhance cross-cultural awareness in teaching;second,to change traditional teaching strategies through multiple interactive teaching;third,to strengthen the infiltration of cultural factors in Chinese textbooks and the construction of cultural textbooks;Fourth,we should attach importance to the cultivation of teachers’intercultural communicative competence and teaching competence. |
