This is a translation report based on Psychology in the Classroom: A Teacher's Guide to What Works(Chapter 2)written by Marc Smith and Jonathan Firth.With a title,Cognition,this chapter focuses on cognitive psychology in education,and explains the two cores of cognitive processes — attention and thinking,and how they guide teachers to make decisions.The excerpt covers information involving working memory,executive function,distraction and mind-wandering,as well as biological and age-related changes of human body.Therefore,multiple terminologies,passive voice sentences,abstract expressions and long complex sentences bring difficulties for the translation text delivery.The ST is an informative text,which should deliver the information to the readers clearly and directly.Three rules of Skopos Theory,namely,Skopos,coherence and fidelity,can make translation meet the standard of inter-textual and intra-textual coherence.Thus,the translator chose the Skopos Theory as the guiding theory,and took division,restructuring and omission as the translation methods to ensure a smooth translation delivery.
