Einojuhani Rautavaara, one of Finland's most famous classical music composers after Sibelius,he has tried to create in a variety of forms and styles during his more than 60 years' career. It includes eight symphonies, nine operas, fourteen concertos, and a large number of chamber music and choral works. His oeuvre can be roughly divided into four periods, experiencing neo-classicalism,serialism,neo-romanticism,and a highly integrated style period influenced by the concept of post-modern composition. His works are often labeled with mysticism because of he obsession with metaphysical, religious and poetic texts."Angel" as an external manifestation of mysterious elements, which relates to the titles and meanings of many works, and have become the iconic features of individual composition. In a series of works on the theme of "angels" by Rautavaara, the Seventh Symphony Angel of Light(1994)is one of the most influential works, and has a great significance of his individual composing career. This thesis takes Seventh Symphony Angel of Light as the research object, from the perspective of music historiography, music analysis and other disciplines, the help of the Seventh Symphony and the relationship between the composer's angel series works and the angel topic of poet Rilke's Duineser Elegien and combining the composer's personal experience, aesthetic concepts, and the composition of related angel topics in the 20 th century,to explain personal insights about the spiritual connotation of the "Angel of Light" behind the work.
