On The Multifunctional Phenomenon Of Locational Prepositions In Modern Chinese Dialects

Through the investigation of the multifunctional phenomenon of locational prepositions in 96 dialects of modern Chinese,this paper finds that there are 14 kinds of co-existing phenomena,and through the study of example sentences,it is believed that the driving force behind these multifunctional phenomena is the result of the combined efforts of syntactic,semantic,pragmatic,cognitive,language contact and other factors.In the first chapter,the syntactic structure,semantic features and classification of spatial prepositions are summarized.In the second chapter,the author firstly presents the collection of prepositions of96 dialect points and places in the seven major dialects in the form of a table,classifies the grammatical forms of different dialect points and places by the categories of starting meaning,place meaning,through meaning,end meaning and direction meaning,and summarizes the characteristics of prepositions in Chinese dialects.In the third chapter,it is found that most of the collected Chinese dialects have the same grammatical form with multiple locational semantics,which is defined as the multifunctional phenomenon of locational prepositions.By sorting out the tables,it is found that there are 14 kinds of multi-function phenomena in Chinese dialects,that is,they both have the function of starting point and ending point(a total of 5cases are found).Both the starting point function and the via function(a total of 30 cases were found);Both the starting point function and the direction function(a total of 1 case was found);Both terminal function and direction function(4 cases were found);Both function and terminal function(13 cases were found);Both the starting point function and the function(a total of 7 cases were found);Both via and directional functions were found(1 case in tounction and direction function(1 case was found);Both the starting point function,the place function and the via function(a total of 7 cases were found);Both the function of the starting point,the function of the site and the function of the end point(2 cases were found);Both function,terminal function and direction function(1 case was found);Both the starting point function,the function through the function,the function and the end function(a total of 2 cases were found);Both starting point function,via function and direction function(2 cases were found).Among them,there are 8 modes that have two kinds of locational semantic functions,and 6 modes that have three or more locational semantic functions.This paper discusses the motivations of these 14 modes.In the conclusion part,the author believes that the causes behind these multifunctional phenomena include the influence of predicate verbs,the influence of syntactic factors,the influence of cognitive factors and the influence of language contact.
