| Energy and Society: A Critical Perspective(Chapter5)develops a critical and comprehensive understanding of the causes and consequences of fuel and energy poverty and also outline the key components that contribute to inequalities in energy consumption.Since the Industrial Revolution, the energy poverty, being one of the three major challenges of world energy system, has been widespread in almost all countries of the world. As the largest developing country,China has not solved the energy problems yet,and the modern energy service system is still in its infancy. Thus,it is of practical significance to translate the project for Chinese readers. This translation report is based on the translation of Energy and Society: A Critical Perspective(Chapter5)and takes the unit of translation as the research highlight in light of the Skopos theory. The theory holds that translation should be able to be accepted by the target language recipients and always be in line with the context and culture of the target language. The main problem that confused the translator during the translating process is long and complex sentences. Therefore, based on Skopos theory, translators use a variety of translation methods including conversion, amplification, inversion and division to further analyze long and complex sentences.Through this translation practice, the translator can further understand the linguistic characteristics of energy science and technology English. It is expected that the translator’s work can provide reference to those who work in the related area. |
