As a region of full of Yi nationality and national culture,Niujie Town,Shiping County is the birthplace of Pulagu dance and the hometown of Haicai tone with a long history and unique style. However, here, the Yi people have another name for the Haicai tone they sang, calling it Qizi(Chinese pronunciation of Yi nationality's dialect is “qi”).The tone is named after a kind of herbal aquatic plant called “sea vegetable” in Yilong Lake.It also known as the Shiping tone,Qizi, commonly known as "Dabanjiang." It is mainly popular among the Yi people in the towns around Shiping Yilong Lake and Longpeng and Niujie Towns in the mountainous areas,at the same time,it is also loved by the Han people and spread in many places such as Jianshui,Tonghai and Gejiu. On May 20,2006,the Yi people's Haicai tone was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage. Not only the media has been arguing to report and scholars are scrambling to study and discuss, but often go abroad to participate in cultural exchange performances representing China and so on at present.Definitely, the tone has become a famous brand of Yunnan national music. However,as one of the four major tones of the Yi people in southern Fujian,Haicai tone is still affected by the geographical environment and regional culture, resulting in a variety of differentregional styles.Currently, the inheritance and protection of the tone is partial, too concentrated in the research and publicity of the tone style in Longpeng Town, which leads the diverse cultures in the tone has gradually become a single culture, losing its colorful regional style charm and the “diversity” characteristics of national culture. This article will discuss another style of the tone in Niujie Town to expand the diverse regional styles by exploring the tone style in Niujie Town and comparing it with the style in Longpeng Town; The 16-word policy of “Intangible Cultural Heritage” protection is followed--“protection-oriented,rescue first, rational use,and inheritance and development” to rescue the local ethnic music culture that is about to disappear in Niujie Town.
