As a report on the author' s simulated English-Korean simultaneous interpreting for Howard Schultz' s speech titled "Building a Trusted and Enduring Brand in China and around the World" at Qinghua University,this dissertation analyzes the interpretation of the speech to discuss difficulties of English-Korean simultaneous interpreting as well as possible coping interpreting skills and solutions.The "task introduction" section describes the background of the task and the purpose of the study.The "task process" section is divided into"pre-interpreting preparation" and "interpreting process".The report divides " pre-interpreting preparation" into three parts,each with a different focus and function,including the speaker's background information preparation,voice data preparation and glossary production,and examines the author' s interpretation from the perspective of structural differences between English and Korean,taking Gile' s"Effort Models" and the principle of "syntactic linearity" as theoretical bases,and selects some typical cases for detailed analysis from the text level.Some interpreting skills are used to overcome strucrual differences between English and Korean,such as conversion,chunking and omission.Also,some mistakes are made in the task process,such as omission and mistranslation.Through the task description and analysis,the following conclusions are drawn.Firstly,it is found that pre-interpreting preparation can lighten the interpreter' s burden in the process of interpreting.Secondly,interpreters should have a high level of expressive ability in both source and target languages,especially the native language ability.Thirdly,effective interpreting skills that can be used in English-Korean simultaneous interpreting are conversion,chunking and omission,which are efficient way to overcome structural differences between English and Korean.Finally,interpreters should pay attention to the accumulation of language knowledge and background knowledge in order to improve the comprehension faculty.
