In recent years,many researches have studied the application of Content-based Instruction in grammar,reading and writing.And these researches have verified that Content-based Instruction is effective to motivate students' interest and improve their achievements.However,few researches have studied the application of Content-based Instruction in vocabulary teaching.Therefore,this research aims to apply Content-based Instruction in vocabulary teaching and to find out if it is an efficient approach to motivate students' interests,change their attitudes and improve their vocabulary achievement.119 students come from two classes in Zhenyuan Senior High School in Gansu province took part in this experiment,which include 60 students in Experimental class and 59 students in Control class.The new teaching approach was applied in Experimental class,and during the detailed teaching process,Marzano and Pickering' six steps for vocabulary teaching were taken.While in the control class,students accepted the explicit vocabulary teaching method.Two research instruments were used in this research:questionnaire and vocabulary tests.These two instruments were finished by students both in Experimental and Control class before and after the experiment.The data of questionnaires and tests were analyzed through SPSS 22.0.Here are two major findings through data analysis:(1)Content-based Instruction can effectively change students' perception on vocabulary learning,especially from the aspects of interest and attitudes;(2)Content-based Instruction can improve students' achievement in vocabulary learning.Besides,based on these findings,two implications on vocabulary teaching were described:(1)vocabulary teaching should be integrated with content teaching,which is beneficial to learning vocabulary effectively and using it appropriately;(2)a few interesting activities are necessary in vocabulary class to raise students' interests.
