| The overall goal of the senior high English curriculum highlights learning from students’ interest,life experience and cognitive level and cultivation of students’ integrated language skills in the process of letting students experience,practice,participate and communicate,which is in accordance with the teaching principle of content-based instruction.Senior English reading teaching is the core of English teaching.It is a main channel of cultivating students’ English reading ability and application ability.Therefore,the author thinks it necessary to conduct research on senior high reading teaching based on content-based instruction(CBI).This research is conducted in two parallel classes(49 students from Class 1201 and 48 students from Class 1202)with the same learning base,learning ability and personnel structure in Ningyuan No.1 Senior High School,mainly based on the theoretical knowledge of content-based instruction,the assessment objectives and demands prescribed by The New Senior English Curriculum Standard and the teaching practice of the author herself.The author intends to discover students’ learning interest and motivation,problems existing in English reading and suggestions for English reading teaching,etc.through lectures and questionnaires,conduct a pre-test before the experiment starts so as to know about the students’ English reading level in the two classes and conduct a post-test after the experiment to examine the experiment results.Each of the two tests total 30 scores as a whole,set as multiply choices,namely,choosing the best answer from the four given four ones,based on the type of English paper of the college entrance examination of Hunan province.During the process of the experiment and after the experiment,the teacher interviewed some students from the experiment group,mainly in the form of dialogues to understand students’ subjective attitude towards the relationship between content-based instruction and English reading.The author aims to apply content-based instruction to the practice of English reading teaching for half a term and to have a bold attempt to combine content-based instruction into senior high English reading teaching and try to integrate different subjects in senior high schools,hoping to provide new language teaching approach,to cause concern of more experts and researchers for the validity and feasibility of applying content-based instruction in senior high English reading teaching,to arouse teachers’ attention to content-based instruction,Stimulate teachers to implement senior English reading teaching effectively,using teaching materials students take interest in and build specific implementation strategies of content-based instruction in senior high English teaching.We will try to answer the following questions:1).Whether does the experimental group have higher motivation and interest in learning English after a half-term experiment,compared with the control group?2).Whether can the experimental group’s English level be improved as a whole after conducting CBI?The author believes that senior English reading teaching based on CBI is in accordance with The New English Curriculum Standard,and fully reflects new curriculum teaching theory.Therefore,it is practical and efficient.Through empirical research,the author makes the following conclusions:1).In CBI reading teaching,students’ motivation and interest in learning English is strengthened in that students enjoy the fun of applying English by taking part in discussing related topics.2).The experimental class has made greater progress than the control group,though there are not very significant differences in the results of the posttest of the experimental group and the control group,which means that CBI is efficient in improving students’ reading ability.Through empirical research,the author further discusses the principles,teaching modes and teaching strategies of senior English reading teaching guided by CBI and provides exemplification as well,which makes other teachers have a deep understanding of CBI,offers reference and aid for other teachers in their teaching practice,and enables them to dig into more teaching methods of improving English reading ability. |
